Same technique
The horse’s position, apparently
unnatural, is due to the attempt to capture the animal’s
movement as it pulls back, terrified of the dragon. Giovanni
Paolo Lomazzo, art writer and painter, praises the result in
his “Treatise on the art of painting (1584). The figure of
the Virgin is based on Leonardo’s style. To note in Saint
George is the double position of the arms that hold the
sword and shield. Dated between 1512 and 1513.

La
posizione del cavallo, in apparenza innaturale, è dovuta al
tentativo di cogliere il movimento dell’animale che si tira
indietro terrorizzato dal drago; Giovanni Paolo Lomazzo,
scrittore d’arte oltre che pittore, ne loda la resa nel suo
Trattato dell’arte della pittura (1584). La figura della
vergine è basata sui tipi leonardeschi; da notare, in San
Giorgio, la doppia posizione delle braccia che reggono la spada
e lo scudo. Datato tra il 1512 e il 1513.
