and Child with St. Anne and a lamb

The group is seated below
an arch or a niche. The Virgin sits on St. Anne’s knees
and leans towards the Child, who embraces a lamb. One of
Leonardo’s pupils certainly had a hand in this drawing.
Apart from the upward gaze of the head towards his mother,
the Child recalls the sketches mentioned in n.15 (recto).
The drawing contains references to the St. Anne in the
Louvre if the image is turned upside down and the arch is
replaced with a landscape. Dated around 1501.

Il gruppo è seduto sotto un arco o una nicchia. La Vergine è sulle
ginocchia di Sant’Anna e si protende verso il Bambino che
abbraccia un agnello. È accertata la partecipazione di un
allievo di Leonardo. A parte la testa rivolta all’insù, verso
la madre, l’atteggiamento del Bambino ricorda gli schizzi del
foglio citato nella scheda 15 (recto). Il disegno contiene
qualche riferimento alla Sant’Anna del Louvre, se si rovescia
l’immagine e si sostituisce l’arco con un paesaggio di
sfondo; datato intorno al 1501.
