An unknown, somewhat
heavy hand has covered the original drawing that was
probably already faded even before the intervention of the
ink, so much so that one of the central figures, the man
with the raised arms, has no legs. Apart from the solitary
figure of the old man with the beard, the rest of the
drawing shows the passion of Leonardo for the “ cinema
sequences”. The various characters around the horse on the
left seem to be successive phases of an action. The
attribution is based on the appearance of numerous
figures-and horses- similar to those in the Adoration of the
Kings.

di piombo ripassata a penna con inchiostro bruno scuro, e
acquerello; cm 20,4 x 15,6. Filigrana: tre vette montagnose.

Una mano ignota ha ricoperto (pesantemente) il disegno originale,
probabilmente già molto sbiadito prima dell’intervento con
l’inchiostro, tanto che a una delle figure centrali (l’uomo
con le braccia sollevate) mancano le gambe. A parte l’isolata
figura del vecchio con barba, il resto del disegno mostra la
passione di Leonardo per le “sequenze cinematografiche”. I
vari personaggi raccolti intorno al cavallo di sinistra sembrano
passaggi successivi di un’azione. L’attribuzione si basa
sulla comparsa di numerose figure – e cavalli – molto simili
a queste nell’Adorazione dei Magi.
