The
detail that shows the front raised leg, bent at the knee gives
the idea of a study for the equestrian monument of Francesco
Sforza, on which Leonardo worked between 1490 and 1492. The
sheet is composed of two smaller sheets joined and slightly
overlapping in the centre; the drawing also shows details of the
horses’ breast on the right and indications of a view from
above on the left. The other side holds a study of
ecclesiastical architecture drawn in metallic point, practically
invisible except under a bright light.

Il
particolare che mostra la gamba anteriore sinistra sollevata e
piegata al ginocchio può far pensare a uno studio per il
monumento equestre a Francesco Sforza, cui Leonardo lavorò tra
il 1490 e il 1492. Il foglio è composto di due foglietti uniti
e leggermente sovrapposti al centro; il disegno mostra, tra
l’altro, particolari dei pettorali del cavallo, a destra, e
accenni di vedute dall’alto a sinistra. Il verso reca uno
studio di architettura ecclesiastica tracciato a punta
metallica, praticamente invisibile se non a luce radente.
