The connection with this fearful condottiere has caused much discussion. The mild and thoughtful aspect of the three heads does not coincide with the determined and unprejudiced character of Borgia in whose service Leonardo found himself in 1502. It is true, however, that the Borgias seemed more Nordic than Mediterranean, almost Durerian and that Cesare was very proud of his flowing beard. Dated around 1500

L’identificazione col temibile condottiero è stata molto discussa. L’aspetto mite e riflessivo dei tre volti non si concilia bene col carattere risoluto e spregiudicato del Borgia, al cui servizio Leonardo si trovava nel 1502. È vero, comunque, che i Borgia avevano un aspetto più nordico che mediterraneo, quasi düreriano, e che Cesare andava orgoglioso della sua barba fluente. Databile intorno al 1500-2.
