The term “probably” can today be eliminated. It is cautiously mentioned by Berenson, who has no doubts as to its attribution and observes: “It is true that the person represented seems older that that which should have been Leonardo, but the fact that he appeared older than his age is also a known and accepted fact.”

La formula “con ogni probabilità” oggi può essere eliminata; è citata a testimonianza della grande cautela di Berenson, che non ha dubbi sull’attribuzione, e osserva: “È vero che la persona raffigurata pare più vecchia di quello che avrebbe dovuto essere Leonardo, ma che egli dimostrasse più dei suoi anni è un fatto noto e accertato.”
