Copy by Leonardo da Vinci.  Self-portrait

The drawing is clearly a design for the famous, signed, self-portrait housed in the Royal Library in Turin. After that mentioned in the introduction, there only remains to mention that Selvatico, who had not been able to see the authentic self-portrait, even managed to read the force of the original in the copy.

Il disegno è chiaramente derivato dal celebre autoritratto autografo conservato alla Biblioteca Reale di Torino. Dopo quanto accennato in prefazione, resta solo da dire che nel commento citato il Selvatico, che non aveva potuto vedere l’autoritratto autentico, riusciva a leggere anche nella copia tutta la forza dell’originale.
