Study for the cartoon of the Preaching of Saint Paul in Athens

The figures, originally outlined in metallic point, were partly nude. Many differences may be observed in the finished cartoon in preparation for a tapestry, in particular the figure of Diogenes on the right that was to be placed lower down the canvas. Some critics judge the drawing to be too weak and attribute it to one of Raphael’s pupils.
