Study for the group of Aeneas and Anchises in the fresco Fire in the Village in the Vatican, housed in the room of the same name. The sanguine, used thickly, does not leave any detail of Aeneas’s young body or that of the falling Anchises. The interlacing arms and legs recall a real life study. There is no doubt that it is by Raphael, although it might be a copy of the fresco. Dated about 1514.

Studio per il gruppo di Enea e Anchise nell’affresco dell’Incendio di Borgo in Vaticano, nella stanza omonima. La sanguigna, pur usata con tratti spessi, non tralascia nessun dettaglio del corpo giovane di Enea e di quello doppiamente cadente di Anchise. L’intreccio di braccia e gambe lascia pensare a un ritratto dal vero. Pochi dubbi sull’attribuzione (solo qualche ipotesi su una possibile copia dall’affresco); 1514 circa.
