MARTIN RESUSCITATES A YOUNG MAN (detail)
According
to the Golden Legend this episode takes place in Chartres. St.
Martin in the crowd is approached by a woman who offers him her son who
has just died. The saint kneels in prayer and the child is immediately
resuscitated and holds out his arms towards him. In the crowd is a knight
with a blue beret pulling a face who has, strangely, been identified as
Simone himself.

Quest’episodio, secondo la Legenda
aurea, si svolge a Chartres. San Martino, tra la folla, viene
avvicinato da una donna che gli porge il figlio appena morto. Il santo
s’inginocchia pregando e subito dopo il bambino risuscita tendendo le
mani verso di lui.
Tra
la folla di curiosi spicca il cavaliere smorfioso, raffigurato con un
berretto azzurro, che spesso, umoristicamente, è stato identificato con
l’autoritratto di Simone.
