THE
MEDITATION OF ST. MARTIN
St.
Martin is represented in the scene completely absorbed in meditation
whilst an altar-boy on his right places a hand on his shoulder to
reclaim his attention and remind him to celebrate mass and, on his left,
another kneels to offer him the missal.
Such
is Simone’s ability that the scene permeates an atmosphere of silence
and peace, typical of a convent.
MEDITAZIONE DI
SAN MARTINO
Nella scena è raffigurato San Martino, completamente assorto nella
meditazione, mentre un chierico sulla destra, posandogli una mano sulla
spalla, lo richiama all’attenzione per ricordargli di celebrare la messa
e, sulla sinistra, un altro inginocchiato gli porge il messale.
L’abilità
di Simone è tale che la scena sembra permeata da un’atmosfera di
silenziosa pace, tipicamente conventuale.
