MARTIN RENOUNCES HIS WEAPONS
On the eve of a military invasion, as the Golden Legend recounts,
the saint told the emperor Giuliano that he would not fight. Accused of
cowardice, St. Martin announced that he would fight alone, armed only
with the cross of Christ.
As
in the previous scene, the background almost serves as the wings of
spatial reality placed at the forefront.

ARMI
Come narra la Legenda aurea,
alla vigilia di un’invasione militare, il santo comunica
all’imperatore Giuliano che egli non avrebbe combattuto. Accusato di
vigliaccheria, San Martino annuncia che avrebbe combattuto da solo, armato
soltanto della croce di Cristo.
Anche
in questa scena, come nella precedente, il fondo funge quasi da quinte
alla realtà spaziale posta in primo piano.
