THE
INVESTITURE OF ST.MARTIN
This
scene recalls the Neapolitan ceremony during which Simone himself was
invested a knight. Martini is in the centre praying whilst, on his left,
Emperor Giuliano holds the sword belt around his hips and to the right a
squire fixes his spurs. Behind the Emperor another two squires carry the
knight’s emblems of the helmet and falcon. To the extreme right a pipe
and lute player are intent on making music. In the background a portico
and arches with cosmic decorations emphasise the various groups of
characters present in the scene.
L’INVESTITURA DI SAN
MARTINO
Questa scena ricorda la cerimonia
napoletana durante la quale Simone stesso fu investito cavaliere.
Al
centro si vede Martino che prega mentre, alla sua sinistra, l’imperatore
Giuliano gli stringe la cintura della spada attorno ai fianchi e a destra
uno scudiero gli allaccia gli speroni. Dietro all’imperatore, altri due
scudieri portano gli emblemi cavallereschi dell’elmo e del falco.
All’estrema destra, un pifferaio e un liutista intenti a fare musica.
Sullo sfondo, un portico ad archi, ornato con decorazioni cosmatesche,
scandisce i vari raggruppamenti dei personaggi presenti nella scena.
