The
nymph of Fontainbleau
Before “Perseus” and “Narcissus”, the first
great sculpture carved by Cellini is this Diana the Hunter, a relief for
Francis I in France created between1543 to 1544. It is a masterpiece of
stylistic abstraction in the rhythm and crystallization that changes the
Hadrian-style into a neo-Gothic taste, this emblem of a hunting lodge for the
School of Fontainbleau.
