Croce astile detta di Desiderio Splendido
frutto della perizia cui verso il IX secolo dimostrano d'esser giunti
nell'Italia settentrionale gli orafi, i gioiellieri e gli artefici del
metallo, è composto da pezzi d'epoca diversa che vanno dal IV secolo
(epoca cui si fa risalire il vetro aureo con i tre ritratti,
evidentemente tardoantico) al XIII, con qualche rifacimento. Di
particolare interesse sono i 17
cammei vitrei trasparenti, che si datano al IX secolo. |

The splendid result of those who in the 19th
century demonstrated the arrival in northern Italy of goldsmiths, jewellers
and metal workers by creating different pieces from the 4th century an era that recalls the golden age of glass with the three late 13th
century portraits slightly restored. Of particular interest are the seventeen
11th century transparent glass cameos.
