fuoco angelico è figurato nel viluppo tortuoso della tunica del
giovinetto, cesellato nel suo sorriso ambiguo come un angiolo del
Correggio. Il Bernini in questo celebratissimo gruppo mistico-erotico ha
raggiunto senza dubbio il vertice della teatralità e contemporaneamente
ha toccato il limite estremo della dissolvenza della plastica in
pittura. |

Ecstasy of Saint Teresa
The
saint's mystical ecstasy is expressed more by the cascade of her robes
than by the perspiration on her face or the trembling of her hands and
feet, just as the angelic fire is represented by the tangle of the
youthful angel's tunic. In this celebrated mystical-erotic group Bernini
has reached the extreme limit of sculpture, where plastic values
dissolve into those of painting.
