romano, pił aspre si facevano le diatribe sul bello ideale, ribadiva
una tesi anticonformista, sottilmente polemica; certo non sarą
possibile ridurre sotto quest'unico denominatore comune tutta la
scultura dell'amplissimo catalogo canoviano, ma sarą ottima spia per
una pił articolata interpretazione della sua poetica.

beauty were becoming heightened and bitter, the sculptor himself
reconfirmed his anticonformist and subtly polemical position. All of
Canova's vast production of sculpture should not be reduced to this
single common denominator, but it offers an excellent means for arriving
at a clearer interpretation of his lyrical work.
