è Michelangelo stesso a usare il termine «bozato» in una lettera a Giovan Francesco Fattucci, e ciò esclude qualsiasi intenzionalità, da parte dello scultore, nel «non finito» di quest'opera . La sublime tensione, la vibrazione della figura emergente alla luce nel fremito delle gradinature e negli stacchi delle forme abbozzate, doveva tradursi nella energia dinamica della struttura definitiva, nell'arduo concatenarsi del modulo compositivo totalmente compiuto.

Michelangelo himself used the expression "roughed out (bozzato)" in a letter to Giovan Francesco Fattucci, showing that he had every intention of finishing this work. The superb tension, the vibration of the figure emerging from the chisel marks and detaching itself from the roughly sketched forms, would have been translated into the dynamic energy of definite structure, the strenuous unity of the completely finished composition.
