Siccome fino da remoti tempi i comaschi sono abituati ad emigrare il qualità di ferraj, muratori, stuccatori, i ecc., così trovansi eglino nelle lombarde antiche leggi, chiamati magistri comacini.

La Val-Intelvi diede molti professori nell’arte del disegno come pure fecondi di begl’ingegni furono parecchi altri luoghi, bastando ricordare il Luini, gli architetti Fontana e Cantoni, il Boldoni, buono scrittore latino e poeta del XVI secolo, i due Venini, l’uno matematico e poeta, l’altro oratore sacro, il Rezzano, il Sacco, l’apostolo del vaccino e, per tacerne molti altri, il Parini e l’Apiani.

I signori milanesi hanno le loro ville nelle deliziose piagge di questo paese, che appartenne, sotto i romani, alla Gallia Trauspadana. Nei bassi tempi, Varese era sede dei conti del Seprio, mentre gran parte della Brianza spettava alla Martesana.

OMO, Comum, Novo Comum, in ancient times- Cumae, a city of the Lombardy-Veneto kingdom, chief town of the province and of two districts, placed in a pleasant valley 8 leagues north north-west of Milan at the extreme south-west of Lake Como. Latitude N. 45 degrees 48' 10", longitude e. 26 degrees 44' 57 ". Seat of an archbishopric, originally the patriach of Aquileja and now under that of Milan. With the help of the citizens,a fine marble cathedral was built in 1396-1513 .

It is a magnificent building composed of many different styles of architecture from XIVth century Gothic to the solid elegance of the XIVth Century. The statues of the two Plinio which adorn the Gothic facade were a gift from the citizens of Como to show their gratitude. The interior is formed of three naves on a Latin cross where the paintings of Luini and Gaudenzio Ferrari can be admired.
