VAŁARSHAPAT - SHOŁAKAT / Xlllth-XVllth centuries
The church known as Shołakat («Drop of light») stands within an imperfectly preserved fortified wall not far from the church of St. Hripsime. The single nave basilica with a dome on a high drum is characterized by the compactness of its volume. It was built in the XVllth century on the site of an earlier (Xlllth century) building. Some of the wall elements of the apse may go back to the Vth century. The porch presents elegant motifs derived from Islamic art.
