SPITAKAVOR / Xlllth century
Small nunnery built on the slope of a hill; it offers a splendid panorama on the district of the village of Bashkend in the region of Ełegnadzor. The complex is composed of an encircling wall enclosing a small church preceded by a porch which is now roofless.
The church is characterized by a very tall cylindrical drum topped by a very slender conical roof. The exterior walls are richly decorated with panels and geometric reliefs. The most remarkable one is the large cross on the east wall with its curiously designed irregular and asymmetric arms. The entrance portal of the church located on the west side is surmounted by a bas-relief representing the Virgin and Child.
