ASHTARAK

VIIth century
This
church is located on the edge of the village of Ashtarak in the center
of a vast cemetery in which tali Khach'k'ars rise above more modest
tombs of many colored stones. Named Karmravor («Red») this church
follows the characteristic cruciform pian of martyria. The roof is of
the archaic «helmet» shape covered with tile rather than the usual
pyramid. The walls are decorated with inscriptions and carved crosses.
