ERERUK - BASILICA / IVth-Vth centuries
The building stands near the village of Ani-Pemza a few kilometers from the Turkish border. It is composed of a large longitudinal hall with three aisles preceded by an atrium between two frontal towers; it is flanked by two arcades ending in a semi-circular apse between two rectangular rooms. The front part is composed of the atrium, the angular towers, the two lateral arcades and the stylobate. These architectonic and stylistlc elements are also found in certain Early-Christian Syrian buildings. They were added to a much simpler earlier building similar to the typical Armenian basilicas of Kasał and Tekor. The entire roof of the basilica is now missing and only the peripheral walls are stili standing.
Restorations were made in 1928 and 1948.
