Description: The most diffused species is Dieffenbachia picta, which boasts large elongate leaves with yellow shades that open up in a fanwise patter and thick stalk.
 

Cultivation: With regards to exposure, these plants require diffused light and exposure to solar rays must be avoided. They must also be kept away from air currents. The room temperature must be higher than 12°C. With regards to soil, the universal type is indicated; it is possible to cultivate Dieffenbachia also in hydroculture. Watering must be abundant in the summer time, and fairly moderate during the vegetative period; water stagnations must be always avoided. Excellent mist propagation on the leaves. Monthly manuring is advised, to suspended only between November and March to allow tufts to rest for a certain period of time. Repotting must take place every two years, choosing a pot with a slightly larger diameter compared to the previous one.

Reproduction: Diefenbachia is reproduced by butting the top part of the plant and by placing it inside a water container to allow rooting. Once roots will appear, cultivation can continue in hydroculture or in the soil.

Descrizione: La specie più diffusa è la Dieffenbachia picta, dalle grandi foglie oblunghe maculate di giallo che dipartono a ventaglio da un fusto carnoso.

Coltivazione: Per quanto riguarda l'esposizione queste piante richiedono luce diffusa e non amano i raggi solari. Temono inoltre le correnti d'aria. La temperatura degli ambienti deve essere superiore ai 12°. Come terriccio va bene quello universale; è possibile coltivare la Dieffenbachia anche in idrocoltura. Le annaffiature saranno abbondanti in estate, decisamente moderate nel periodo del riposo vegetativo; si devono evitare sempre i ristagni d'acqua. Ottime le nebulizzazioni sulle foglie. Si consigliano concimazioni mensili da sospendere solo tra novembre e marzo per consentire ai cespi un certo riposo. Il rinvaso va effettuato ogni due anni scegliendo un vaso di diametro poco superiore al precedente.

Moltiplicazione: La Diefenbachia si riproduce tagliando la sommità della pianta e ponendola a radicare in un recipiente riempito d'acqua. Una volta comparse le radici la coltivazione potrà continuare in idrocoltura o in terra.
